Plastics (Hard)

Find out how to reduce, re-use and recycle hard plastic items.

Reduce

Before thinking about reuse, recycling or disposal options for your hard plastic item, have you considered whether it could be repaired?

There are several repair cafes and groups in Suffolk who offer free help to local communities. Please visit the repair cafes page to find out more.

Reuse

Hard plastic items in good condition could be offered to charity shops or through an online reuse network. Find your nearest charity shop.

You might also be able to sell some hard plastic items through a car boot sale, jumble sale, or online market. Offer unwanted items to friends, neighbours or relatives.

Recycle

Hard plastics are not accepted for recycling in your kerbside recycling collection.

Unfortunately, we are not able to recycle rigid plastics at Suffolk Recycling Centres at this time. However, we are currently searching for suitable off-takers for this material.

Hard plastics are currently being mixed with non – recyclable waste for disposal at Suffolk’s energy from waste facility, where it will be used as fuel to generate electricity.
